Adventure Training

1461 Squadron undertakes a variety of adventurous training, this page outlines some of the activities cadets can expect to regularly participate in.

Squadron Camps & Camping
Often part of an exercise or just used as accommodation for an event or activity, good camping skills are an important part of most adventure training activities.
Fieldcraft
Fieldcraft is the art of moving and living in the field, and is an exciting part of the ATC. Exercises range from a few hours in the evening, to a whole weekend of activities. Often the exercises are competitive, with one or more teams competing against each other.
Expeditions
The squadron undertakes backpacking expeditions, often as part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. Expeditions typically occur over the course of a weekend (eg for practice or the bronze D of E award) and may occassionally take place over longer (eg bank holiday) weekends, to accommodate the longer expeditions (eg silver D of E)

Greens Camp

Learning survival skills in a local wooded campsite, the cadets (and staff!) practice camoflage and concealment, escape and evasion aswell as building "bashas", a small shelter to sleep in.

National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centres
The ATC has two national adventure training centres - Llanbedr in North Wales and at Windermere in the Lake District. Each year the Wing runs a number of week long camps at the centres to undertake walking, camping, climbing, gorge walking, abseiling and mountain biking to name just a few of the activities!
Wing Camp
Each year, South and East Midlands Wing run a week long camp, often with over 300 cadets plus 40 or 50 staff. A variety of challenging outdoor activities create an exciting programme for everyone.
Climbing & Abseiling
1461 Squadron occasionally participates in Abseiling and Climbing. This is wall is part of the adventure training centre at Llanbeder
