| Target shooting is a popular activity at 1461 Squadron. Initially cadets are given training on a basic small bore weapon first, on the range at the TA centre next door to our Squadron further training is available on the L98 full-bore rifle, which we usually shoot either on camp at an RAF station/Army barracks or over a weekend on a military range. |

All training is carried out by a trained adult staff member who is proficient in weapon handling. You will not be permitted to shoot until you have passed both the necessary training and certain proficiency tests in weapon handing and procedures. |
| Once cadets are proficient and of the correct age, they can be trained to shoot on a full bore weapon (L98A2 cadet GP rifle, 5.56 mm). |

Training and proficiency in weapon handling will permit you to shoot on military ranges under qualified supervising staff for practice and competition target shooting.
